VoIP’s Next Generation Users: Residential VoIP’s

Those who have relatives abroad have long tried to keep in touch with the messenger services and email as the telephone calls were too costly. These messenger services could be used only if there were computers on both sides and both the computers had the same software installed. These people can now get better deals with broadband and software’s that user better technologies to give better quality of voice. Skype, NetMeeting, Net2Phone, and Phone Free are a few that provide good quality voice.

Voice over the internet has been around for quite some time but has not caught the fancy of the public at large because of the abysmal service. Broad band and other innovations are now carrying forward the VoIP revolution. The first to adopt these services are large corporations (ERP/CRM). A huge savings in the bill plus an integrated service is needed for these corporations that make them choose broadband enterprise service voip. The home users are the target of many VoIP providers as increased customer base means increased revenues.

With many users in the US already having a broadband connection residential service voip is slowly increasing. All that is required of users already having a broadband connection is to plug the phone given by the voip service provider into the modem router. These phones are IP phones that contain a chip to do all the processing on the voice signal as well as to use the various protocols to transfer the voice to the other end.

The other option in residential voip services is to use an ATA- Analog Telephone Adapter. You connect the old phone to this and an internet connection to the Adapter. This connects your old phone to the internet directly without having to buy a new IP phone. Many service provides give the Adaptor as a part of the plan.

The third option as always is to use your PC and messenger service such a skype or Net meeting. The only problem in this method is that both of you have to be online to make a connection and talk. With the earlier two methods you are provided with a number and the rest is as the normal telephone. You can dial anyone or hear the phone ring when anyone dials you.
